ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores dissociation, a psychological phenomenon in which the mind creates a protective buffer, distancing perception from direct reality to cope with overwhelming emotional or sensory input. This state often presents as zoning out,

where minor stimuli can trigger vivid visuals disconnected from the present environment At the middle of dissociation is a shift in mental control: the subconscious mind begins to dominate. While the conscious mind handles focused thought and active awareness, the subconscious governs up to 90% of our daily functioning managing sensory processing, memory, and emotional reflexes. In dissociative states, the subconscious overpowers the conscious. These impressions may feel vivid yet ungrounded, confusing reality with internal residue. Many of these visual impressions are drawn from my own dissociative experiences, reappearing in my work as fragment familiar yet displaced.

MY WORK

WHAT IS PRESENT?

A metal sheet serves as a physical boundary for video projection, exploring the dissociative friction between tangible reality and digital memory.

INDISTINCT RECALL

This installation uses light positioned beneath etched glass to project elongated traces onto the wall.

This upward projection creates a

"latent image”

a visual metaphor for the subconscious mind.

HONOR

An evocative public installation addressing the tragedy of honor killings: it features the Pag—a traditional cloth synonymous with patriarchal power—whose massive, winding veils are folded to reveal the hidden, silenced faces of victims, illustrating how innocence is pressed into the very fabric of this social structure.
